As a child growing up I observed that in most instances affluent people did not allow field workers or people of a certain class to sit and eat with them at their dining table for dinner. Maybe they were too smelly from having worked all day in the humidity of the tropics or they were not considered good enough to mix so closely with the master and his family. If they were offered a meal they would sit and eat on the back step of the kitchen or under a tree in the yard.
Jesus has invited us to dinner and has provided the shower of his cleansing blood, the robe of His righteousness and a seat at His table as a member of His family. Don’t sit on the kitchen step thinking you are not good enough He has a seat for you inside and every dish on the menu is made with love.
